Getting
out and purchasing new curtains for your home is easy. But the real battle
begins when the dust and dirt begin to settle on the surface of the fabric. Maintaining
the quality of your curtains is easy with smart tips and proper caring. Both
the selection as well as the proper care for window curtains is essential.
Sunlight
as well as the dirt molecules floating around in the atmosphere is destructive
to fabrics. Dark colors such as brown, gray and black absorb sunlight and prone
to fading Light colors reflect back the sunlight and therefore resist fading. Therefore
to protect your drapes from getting faded, use lined window treatments, blinds
or shades.
If
you take proper care of the curtains regularly, they will remain like brand new
for a long time. Give them a gentle shaking at the end of the day, as they are
drawn closed. This will remove the dust or dirt settled on the surface and
prevents its molecules from lodging in the fibers. You can also use vacuum
cleaner at low setting to clean your curtains. Make sure to secure heavy
embellishments, buttons or trims before cleaning.
Do
not wash your curtains if the lining attached to it is made from different
fiber. If the drapery and lining are made of different fibers, one may shrink,
while the other may remain in its original state. This may cause your curtains
to hang poorly. If such thing happens, you can anytime remove the lining from
your designer door curtains and get
new lining.
If
your washing machine is small for your curtains, never ever think about washing
them in it. If you draperies have pleats, washing them in machine can cause
them to damage their original shape. As Indian
homes get lot of direct sunlight, it can weaken the fibers of your
curtains. So if you feel you’re your ethnic
curtains have become weak over time, do not wash them at home as it will
damage them completely. If you feel that it is extremely necessary, iron on the
reverse side. For a crisp and sharp look, you can also starch your curtains.
Purchasing
fresh designer curtains are easy,
but taking care of them in an appropriate way is somewhat tricky. So take care
of your drapes since the beginning and they will always enhance the beauty of
your home.
